Hand of Leprosy

And the LORD said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow. And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh (Exodus 4:6-7).

If I were to look at this scene with the eyes of modern man, I would report magic, sleight of hand, a trick designed to mess with the mind. With the eyes of faith, I see that Moses experienced deity, displaying His power, by changing matter on command

Magicians are replicating imposters
God is creator without comparison

While studying Exodus, two verses at a time, I have the luxury of mediating on astounding occurrences between God and man
  • God appears
  • God speaks
  • God instructs
  • God predicts and foreshadows
  • God reassures
  • God provides a plan
  • God provides reinforcements
  • God sends
  • God disciplines
  • God forgives
  • God gives many chances
  • God is patient with petulant people
  • God rebukes
  • God gives life
  • God takes life
  • God wounds
  • God heals
  • God assigns
  • God gives
  • God takes away
  • God changes nothing into something; God transforms matter from one item, into another, and back again, whenever, wherever, however, and as often as He likes... but He does this for us to GET IT, and to GET HIM
  • God is always purposeful
Imagine Moses, putting his perfectly healthy hand, into thy bosom (inside his cloak) at Gods command, withdrawing it, and it being white as snow, with leprosy? This would be shocking, would it not? Before Moses can process the fact that his hand has suddenly, seemingly without cause, been coated with a skin disease, that would render him socially unacceptable, God commands him to place the sickened hand back into his bosom, and upon removal, it is restored!

God communes
What we see is God condescending to commune with His created. This is astounding, and fascinating too: it speaks to His compassion for our puny states of mind, as we struggle and stress, fuss and fight. We are rebellious by nature, and disinclined to Gods command in our lives. Moses, he was a reluctant leader, but alas, Gods plan was not to be thwarted by a mere man! Moses felt inept, but was willing to be equipped: God knew this mans heart.

Flash light beams
I must return my gaze to the magician, and shine flash light beams into his eyes. The magicians of our day, want to take the healthy hand, the healthy heart, the whole human, and corrupt and corrode, destroying what God has created for His glory. Using wicked abhorrent imagination, they mimic what is marvellous, convolute and contort goodness, all for the sake of mocking God by maiming man.

In the vignette above, God taught Moses, and those of us that want to learn about Him, that He wounds, and He heals: He displays His Sovereign powers for His glory, and the saving of souls that worship Him:

Lord, if thou wilt,
thou canst make me clean
When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean.
And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. (Matthew 8:1-3)

God loves us dear reader, and as we make our way in the world, it is a glorious truth to grasp, that His Sovereignty, His will, His way, will not be mocked, nor will it be hijacked, abrogated or in the least ways, denied. We cannot outwit, outlast, outrun God, and those that try, end up dying no matter how far they think they can go!

I pray you trust in Him, like Moses did...
