He was buzzing and flying while butting up against the screen, making his way toward the open end. He was centimetres away from freedom but could not see past the barrier, the frame that enclosed the screen and held it taut. Stop, try, buzz, fly, buzz some more; in desperation, the beautiful bumble bee insisted upon this method of try, try again, to free himself from a trap that had an unseen escape route.
I love bumble bees; I am a sucker for living creatures. There are some that give me the creeps, that make my skin crawl and itch, but most of them are kind of adorable to me: bumble bees are too cute and cuddly to dislike. The fella that was trapped between glass sliding door and screen door, needed some help out of his dilemma, and I assigned myself to the task. From the other side, I tapped and tried to get him to the open end. The bee would make it so far, and then go in the other direction. My help was an irritant, and he pattern like, preferred his own methodology at attempting an escape. I realized I had to go to the other side of the doors to be of better assistance: I had to coax the yellow and black fur-ball as an insider, to get him to rejoin the world he was meant to buzz around in.
Invisible barriers are a block. Freedom calls from the other side and we are want to hear, want to see. Sometimes, we buzz so loudly that we cannot hear the voice of reason telling us Peace, be still, I will guide you to the opening, Free you from your troubles, Coax you to calm. The bumble bee knew what freedom prior to his imprisonment felt like. He could not help himself, despite his fruitless efforts, he just had to keep trying to discover where he could go to get out! We humans haven't a clue about freedom, until we know the One that holds the key to the cell we can't make our way out of, no matter how we try to escape.
I love human beings; I am a sucker for living creatures. There are some that give me the creeps, that make my skin crawl and itch, but most of them are kind of adorable to me. Humans are too cute and cuddly to dislike. The people that are trapped between the altar and the door, need some help out of their dilemma, and God has assigned his people as ambassadors for the task. We tap and try, but it is when we are in relationship with them, from the side that they are trapped on, that we can sooth their irritation and assist them out of their imprisonment.
Completely Oblivious
I know from personal experience what complete oblivion feels like: it is a state of being that suggests unknowingness in such entirety as to be un-lead-able, unteachable, unreachable, frustratingly ignorant of the facts. The Word of God hit me like a hammer of Truth when I needed it the most. I often tell how in anger, which I had a natural tendency toward given my hot blooded parentage, would have me running to scripture for vindication, as I searched for why people ought to be punished for their wrong doing to me or anyone else they happened to hurt; alas, reading scripture had me slowing down to a walk, then dropping to my hands and knees into a crawl, when what I read indicted me! Divine retribution is not something we want for ourselves - divine intervention is our hope and prayer for self, and those that are currently and completely, oblivious, to God and the mercy he grants us daily.
The bumble bee was set free, and I said what I always say when I rescue an insect, freeing them to annoy me later on, Saved another life! That was yesterday: today I saw a dead body, a bumble bee whose life was spent, lying on the sliding door railing. It made me sad and had me wondering, Could I have saved him too, or is this the carcass of my little friend from yesterday? I am occupied very much with the living, and want sometimes desperately to see souls saved, but it is God and God alone that can do this work, all I can do is point to where there is an opening, and hope the ones I pray for along the way, make it out to the freedom that is calling to them from the other side of there own version of a thin screened in door.
John 20:21
Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my father hath sent me, even so send I you
Once a person is free, all they want is everyone they know to be free too, to experience the peace of relationship with the Son of God, and with the Son's Father. The Holy Ghost is the voice that coaxes and leads us to the opening that was right there the whole time, but had remained unseen. This is what The Bible has to say on the matter:
That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places (Ephesians 1:17-20)
Life, or death, that is the matter we speak of together today. Trapped unaware, or very well informed and set free. Oblivious, or filled with wisdom and knowledge ... all available, all of the time. I leave you now to buzz about your business as I buzz freely about mine.
